i love you, grandpa.

Andrew Garza Jr.

...I know you're in a better place and that God has a special place for you up in heaven. I already know that you're having a blast, it's just like you. Thanks for all the encouragement in my education and I promise, promise, promise I'll finish my last year of college just for you. And one day, someday, I'll be able to take you out to eat finally and we'll have twelve courses. My treat. :) I love you.

Youtube Tuesday!

I decided that on Tuesdays I shall post my youtube clip of the week.

This week: A video taken in 2001 of Andrew Bird in the Bowl of Fire days! I'm so glad people are starting to upload video taken of the band. What a shame it is to know we'll never hear another album from this quartet. They need to reunite...now. Or for my birthday - whatever's more convenient. :)

Nevertheless, to enjoy the swing/ragtime that is this band, Click below:

family ties.

I've been in San Antonio for the past week with the family. For sadder reasons though - it seems my grandpa is very sick due to his complications - he's been admitted into the hospital and is on life support. I won't go into details, but we can only see him thirty minutes every two or three hours. We're hoping for the best or at the very least that he is peaceful while he's staying in the CCU.

I have gotten to meet my grandpa's side of the family as they come and go in the waiting room- and it's pretty incredible considering I've never met nor seen any of them before. They're all very nice people and have been the most supportive towards my grandmother.

On the upside, in the week I've been 'living' in the waiting room, I've watched some lovely movies: 'Funny Face' (j'adore les actuers Audrey and Fred Astaire! - Ce sont tres magnifique!) and Friendly Persuasion with Mr. Perkins. I'd post a clip of it, but the hospital blocks a lot of streaming sites, so no dice on being visual this blog. Wednesday I finally saw (half of) 'Anatomy of a Murder'! I had been wanting to see this movie after falling in love with the soundtrack composed by Mr. Ellington himself - it just so 50's jazz and I love it. Me thinks James Stewart is oh-so-likeable (as he is in every movie). He's just a swell guy you'd like to have in your neighborhood, haha. I shall continue my movie obsession tonight with a possible viewing of...Gene Kelly's classic dance moves.

God, I love classic cinema.

Here's to hoping all the best for my grandpa, no matter what God's will is for him. :)

calm like water...

second blog, second blog!
so I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of this blog is. I already have a diary, so wouldn't it defeat the purpose of having it? To be honest, I'm tired of that diary. I like looking at it, but it's such a funny part of my life that I just cringe at now.
Haha, I can't wait til I look at it even several years from now (even months, how about days?) and see how much I cringe then. Oh noeees, I'll just die of embarrassment. Oh well.
Point is, I want somewhere new to write.

That's what I'll do! Have online blog-diary-venting source! Yay!

Yeah!

In all seriousness, this is for whoever comes across it. I don't really care if you like what I say or if you even care, but this is for me. :)

I rented several movies over this weekend. Where you ask? At I LUV VIDEO, of course! I know, right? Talk about jumping on THAT bandwagon late. They have just about every section you can imagine...sci-fi, sci-fi classics, horror, death metal musicals, anime, documentaries, foreign, classics, tv shows, movies by director....
But really, they have a foreign section like no other. It took up like a whole wall, and that wasn't with the covers facing forward, this was with the movies stacked together, as if books on a bookshelf.
You get a free membership if you surrender your Blockbuster card - I didn't have mine unfortunately, but the guy said I could bring it in the next time and get a free movie. Hell yeah.

Anyways, I checked out 'On the Beach' and a double feature movie, 'I Walked With a Zombie/The Body Snacther' Mwuahahaha!
On a sad note, On the Beach is terribly depressing. But it'll get you thinking about nuclear war and it's effects - and how society has to deal with the choices of the government. Yes, I cried.

I haven't got to The Body Snatcher yet because my damn dvd player wouldn't start. Or it did, but it kept replaying the scene after every chapter it reached. For example, the credits started, then repeated itself - got through the 1st chapter and then repeated itself from the beginning again, then kept going until it reached the 2nd chapter and so on. Boo.

If it doesn't work, I'm watching American Psycho tonight. Now I'm off to go make some spaghetti.

getting started.

I've never really had a blog, so we'll see how it goes. I guess people say you're making yourself more vulnerable to the peering eyes that come across your words, but aren't we already vulnerable everyday? If anything, I've learned that by sitting around, nothing gets done. Saying nothing leads to...well, nothing. So, I've decided to take more initiative in things and well, it's made me a happier person than what I can ever remember.

I'm an INFP (if you're into that sort of thing) so I'm thinking this writing will come naturally, also with the fact that I'm an English major. (Go British Lit!)

Some things about me:
I love gothic and suspense novels. I love horror/thriller movies (definitely have love for Hitchcock) and really, I'm just starting to realize my love for all movies in black and white. There's just something so mystical and nostalgic and oh-so-lovely about what's captured in these classic films. Even if most of the love scenes are greatly (and sometimes overly) choreographed, you can still feel the pure intensity between the characters and the shedding of clothes is never even shown nor needed ---now THAT is what I call chemistry.

Another hobby is that I love looking for new music - I twitch if I don't have a new band to obsess about.

Guess that's about it for now, I could write forever, but it's late and it's finals week - so I should really get some shut eye. I'm off to listen to some Fleet Foxes...
